- Colonised by the British during the 19th century, Ghana gained independence on 6th March 1957
- Christianity was introduced in 1472 by Portuguese traders
- The Anglican Church in Ghana is administered in 11 dioceses: Accra, Kumasi, Cape Coast, Ho, Koforidua, Sekondi, Tamale, Sunyani, Wiawso, Dunkwa and Asante Mampong
- Asante Mampong has been created from the Diocese of Kumasi - Ghana's second largest - which itself was established from that of Accra in 1974
- The Diocese of Asante Mampong is set in a rural and forest region and has a particular focus on evangelisation
- The Rt Revd Dr Cyril Ben-Smith was consecrated as a suffragan bishop in 2011 and has studied Theology in Ghana, South Korea, Wales and England
- Asante Mampong is the 17th Diocese within the Church of the Province of West Africa (CPWA)
